Silo Art Gallery
Since the founding of Sudbury Ontario’s Flour Mill District, there has been a strong French influence in the area. In the early 1900’s, the agricultural community in Sudbury was primarily dominated by French speakers and bilinguals, whilst the slowly growing mining industry was unionized to English speakers. As jobs quickly faded from wheat farming to mining after the first world war, the Flour Mill District began to slowly lose touch with it’s French heritage.
The Silo Art Gallery embraces the rich history of the site by integrating the old flour mill silos into it’s design. The geometry of the gallery is meant to reflect that of the silos and vegetation is introduced to allow the architecture to be reclaimed by nature
