Ecology Centre
In Native American culture, the turtle is symbolic of mother earth and nature. Creation stories for many North American native groups depict the continent itself as a giant turtle island with a terraformed shell. This idea of a giant turtle with entire ecosystems growing from it’s back is what inspired this project. Through the various connections to the site; Native American origin stories, and the protected turtle hatchery on the property, the ecology center uses a family of turtles as its central motif.
